Bulbs are easy methods of planting a garden without doing a whole mess of work. Bulbs, while easy to plant and grow, still require an attention to detail in order to grow correctly. The learning process won’t take long, so you can have you garden up and going in no time at all.

Your flowers that grow from bulbs will bloom according to what condition the bulb is in when planted. The bulb should be large in size, if possible. A large bulb would indicate that the flower has a larger chance of blooming once the time comes. Small bulbs may indicate a problem in development, although this is not always the case when working with flower bulbs.

It seems odd, but bulbs can easily be damaged by water. An abundance of exposure to water will essentially drown out the bulb. When you are storing your flower bulbs, you should keep them in a cool, dark, place if you intend on using them soon. You are even able to freeze them if you intend on keeping the bulbs for next season.

When you wish to plant your bulb, ideally you will want to do so when it is the Fall season. Pick a time in which you think it will be around a month and a half before the Winter brings a chilling frost to the ground. That way the bulb will have time to take up home in the ground soil before the Winter winds come to test the strength of the bulb.

Different bulbs will have to be placed at different depths in the soil, depending on their characteristics. Be careful not to dig a shallow hole, as this will leave little protection from the Winter and if the plant survives, it could be seriously maimed. Digging a hole too deep would also secure an unfortunate fate for your plant, as it would essentially bury it alive.

Flower bulbs, like any other plant, will need rich soil to thrive. Soil can sometimes become drained of nutrients, and they can only be replaced through certain growing tactics or by using fertilizer. Using a fertilizer is always a good choice, so long as the fertilizer you pick is not laden with chemicals that would hinder the growth of the flower. Information on compatibility can be found in gardening books and through gardening experts.

Final Thoughts

You can have a lot of fun growing gardens with flower bulbs. They are quite easy to work with, certainly much more so than other gardening methods. At the end of the season you may have a bit more work to do than you did initially, but it’s therapeutic work in itself.
